Elon Musk manages to travel 600 km with his new vehicle without recharging his electric battery
"The fastest car in the world, in production, is electric." So presumes Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla, of his new toy. The new Model S is positioned as the third fastest car in the world to reach 100 kilometers per hour in 2.5 seconds.
However, the biggest advance of the P100D model that will soon travel the US roads is the new battery. Tesla and Musk win a new battle in the war of electric autonomy.
The new Tesla will have a 100 kWh battery is the first to pass the 300 miles and is able to extend the autonomy to 613 kilometers. The P100D update can also be applied to the Model X SUV that can run for 542 kilometers without the need to recharge its battery.
"On a day that is not too hot, you can drive from Los Angeles to San Francisco without the need to recharge, I think it's a remarkable autonomy." The important thing is that we are getting into an economy of scale, making an electric car that every more people will be able to afford it, "says Elon Musk.
With this new battery, the Model S will have an initial price of 134,500 dollars (118,938 euros), which varies according to the additional personalization that is chosen. In the case of the Model X, the price will be at 135,000 dollars (119,380 euros), one tenth of the price of the only two sports cars that have such acceleration.
Wireless charging
One of the main handicaps that users of electric vehicles still encounter is the absence of charging stations or electric stations. To solve these problems, and waiting for the P100D pack to arrive, the Evatran company has launched Plugless, a wireless charging system, exclusively for the Model S.
Plugless, compatible with Tesla's usual recharging points, is a platform that is placed under the vehicle and charged through a device connected to the interior of the car.
The price of the system is $ 2,440 and will begin to be tested in the coming weeks in small groups of vehicles on a trial basis, but large-scale production is scheduled for this fall.
